Comets regularly split up approaching the Sun.
Note how Jupiter ripped Shumaker-Levy apart before dragging it in to its doom.
If this one is breaking up it should be interesting.

Now This shot really is something o sing about in my opinion. The detail in the halo is amazingly clear (yes, I know there is not much 'detail', but you know what I mean!), and the tiny nucleus is very apparent, and even clearly showing a trajectory. Well done Dave!

A Fab image, even more impressive is that you are tracking the comets and not the background stars.!

Great image Dave love the detail in the comet. I must say I'm getting some great views myself in the 14" scope.

My own image of Holmes at 21:16hrs before a blanket of cloud rolled in (I'm outside typing this!).
Canon 350D ISO800 70mm F4.0 5 seconds sRGB. resized minus c. 70%, some cropping, no processing.
At 300mm the coma was more pronounced. I was tring out different settings on the camera as the cloud came rolling in, but my best shot showed some trailing, that's why I opted for the 70mm shot instead.

Looks a bit monochromatic Seanie.
Any chance you could try it in colour?
