Keith,
do you do a 2-star allignment each time? What is the longest you have got for a trained exposure? Also, I am amazed (on second viewing) by just how much detail you have captured for a 3 minute exposure with this shot.
Again, WOW...

Seanie, when I move back home again, you're welcome to donate if you want I only get there about once every 2-3 months largley due to the weather..
Not at all, my C8 is fully manual ! I firstly aling my 9x50mm finderscope very well to a broght star, whilst looking at it defocused in a high power eyepiece. Then I aling my scope at RA and dec the the exact north pole using a printed close up from skyatlas 2000.
The longesst shaot I've got is 10 minutes widefield, but even with my 85mm lens (a 135mm lens full frame), I got 6 at most.
The detail is in the quality of the sky - from this site you are looking dead south over a clear horizon, the only light you see apart fron stars are those ships at night.
Keith..

Keith, they have to be some of the last best skies in Europe.
Out of curiosity (and no I'm not going to go sneaking off down there with my Canon! )
what are the coordinates? or google earth placemark..
