The first of many I hope! was created by XULYKS
Well after failing miserably at taking an image of Mars with my Skylux ( bit of a long shot... i know now ), I decided to start off on something a little easier...
Granted it's not amazing, but given I'm using a 70/700mm refractor, and a common 5mp digital camera, I'm pretty satisfied! Make do with what you've got and all that
I got one hell of a horrible blue neon glow around the outside of the Moon, but photoshop got rid of that for me. Other than the blue bit, it hasn't been touched ( mainly because I don't know what else to do with it ).
Hopefully I'll have the opportunity to produce some of the fantastic images popping up all the time on the forum

Thats a great first image of the Moon with the set up you've got.
One to be proud of.
Sometimes the less 'photoshopping' you do to an image the better.
Yours is perfect as is.
I would not touch it.
The detail along the terminator is great
and the rest isn't overexposed so it shows some good detail.
Keep em coming

A grand image there, looks the job !
You could sharpen it up in photoshop, but its questionable if it would actually improve the image really.

Great shot - much better than my first efforts. A touch of unsharp masking perhaps - no more than a touch though!
Keep at it - the route to good photos necessarily involves taking plenty of bad ones as they become more ambitiousbut it's always wort having a go.

Thanks guys!
I'm starting to recognise some of the features on its surface. Copernicus, Kepler, and Tycho are the ones that stood out to me most. But there were a few features I only learned of in the past couple of hours
I've managed to make out a crater, I think I've got the name right...
The image of the crater didn't come out as clear as I'd hoped, but it's stil recogniseable
This, if anything, will be the best place to start amateur astrophotography. I'm sure the craters on the moon will keep me ocupied for a while

That's excellent work Greg! Here's a challenge for you - Saturn ought to be bright enough in the coming months for you to get a shot at least clearly showing the rings and very possibly the Cassini division too as well as the shadow of the planet on the rings.
But the craters will keep you occupied in the meantime!
Good luck!
