Dave i had a look at the "negative" and there are two prominent points of light at 10 and 12 from Mars.....but also lots of other less bright stars. I dont know what they are to be honest. I would imagine the one at 12 o clock IS a moon.

Not sure what the dark part in the middle is....maybe an indication of some surface detail?

But i doubt it.

well done PJ

Clearly a disk there.... you could be onto something with the coolpix camera. What were the exposure details and did you use a tripod or piggyback it on your scope?

I'm impressed

Exposure...........what the hell is that?. The cam i used is a point and click run of the mill digicam. I had it on the tripod and on self-timer (to eliminate the shake that comes with pressing the button.)

The image is magnified 10X from the original.

Clearly a disk with pretty good colour and a hint of detail (i think) in the centre. Also i think i did catch one of the moons in the 12 o clock position.

Considering NO scope or bins were used.......i'm chuffed with it.

I didnt expect it to come out so good.

Just goes to show what i'll hopefully be able to image once i attach my cam to my scope.

yes, deffo some detail in there Paul.
Its funny really, I never thought of someone of just putting up a camera with a tripod to the sky and take a picture of another planet, sounds abit surreal.
