Cheers guys. It was incredibly clear on Friday so the gradients weren't bad at all, making it alot easier to process.

create a tutorial on the processing involved in this image?

Hey Fintan, I'm not very good at processing but I got Ron Wodaski's "New CCD Astronomy" to help me through it. It's available for download or physical purchase at www.Newastro.com . I'll post some of the steps used when I get a chance in a couple of days. The main part was aligning 3 images for the main nebula so that the core wasn't burnt out - in the 2 minute subframes half of M42 is just white. That said this is a much easier target than the galaxies and stuff that are being posted at the moment.

There are some processing gods on this board who would be better for this though

Paul, it was originally 8mp but I cropped alot of that out. The resultant file is 1540x2220, so the DPI would be just over 300 for 5x7.

Cheers,

Trev

Thanks a mil Trevor. I think il get that book. going on a book buying spree in the next few days, one on photoshop, and the book you reference should give me plenty to dig my teeth into.

Dont sell yourself short Trevor, sure there are some astrophoto gods on these forums, but your pretty much there IMO. You are doing incredible imaging here.

Again, great image.

Hi Trev,
Thats a fantastic image, good reds, good blues and a nice trapezium, its one of the best images of that area of the sky I've seen for a while.
