Oops, I forgot to check back
It's really more down the camera I think. When trying to capture the proms I use a much slower shutter speed to get them bright enough, that has the effect of making the brighter part of the prom at the bottom burnout along with the disc. I guess using something like Skynyx with it's higher dynamic range could help with that but I suspect that it would still occur.

Seriously though, one of the fascinating things when looking through a solar scope is how dynamic these things are. The proms can look different hour by hour. Really cool stuff.
