I've just seen a video of the live focus feature on the 450D and I'm sold.
This camera (body) is going for around 500 snoots and seeing s I paid nearly 800 for my 350D I reckon the
old 'should I buy it or not formula' comes into play.
E.g.

...
Ah well,
I cant write it here but it's basically a mathematical way to kid yourself that you should buy something.

Me no need formulas.
Me need 450D live focus!
:silly:

The reasons to go with the 40D over the 450D/1000D are
  • Metal body - 450D is entirely plastic
  • More AF Points
  • Shutter - 40D is rated for 100,000 cycles, 450D is only designed for 50,000 cycles
  • Weather Proofing - This is Ireland, it rains alot

40D has live view and sensor cleaning like the 450D or 1000D

Whats the price difference?
When you say 'rated' for X amount of cycles,
Does this mean they have a built in lifespan?
Would that hold true to the likes of the old, pentax slr's etc?

From Conns Cameras, the 450D is €699 and the 40D is €999.
"Rated for X amount of cycles" means that the shutter is only designed to mechanically make X amount of actuations before the mechanism may fail, so they have a designed in lifespan.
This holds true of any mechanical shutter even in older film SLRs.
However, a lot of people have had no mechanical issues beyond the designed lifespan of most shutters.

I would have to hold each and weigh up the pros & cons.
