Looks like a fab observing site Frank, I have been there before but never at night. You got some great shots there, landscape+astronomy, well done.

I have to get a tracked shot there soon.

Incidentally Frank, what's your exposure time on #1?


12 min.

On the last two there seems to be a vertical line effect. Is this JPEG compression feature?


It's from the 1800 ISO setting I think.
Jpeg compression makes it worse.

Those pics are just fantastic. I love seeing starry skies over more terrestrial objects. Having something as fantastic as a dolmen in the foreground just adds to the effect.

Mind you, I can't imagine a better way to ensure a sprained anckel than walking along limestone pavements in the dark!

In my experience HDR doesn't work well for astrophotography. Too may exposures required so you don't get nice stars.

Works well for buildings at night though ( www.bartbusschots.ie/gallery/picture.php?/2043/category/165 ).
