Jupiter from Murrumbateman was created by bird
Hi, it's been a while since I posted here, but I still drop by and read the boards regularly, it's good to see what everyone's up to :-)

Here's a contribution from down under - some Jupiter images from my observatory in very good seeing.

regards, Anthony

They are some shots Anthony, and I still can't get over the detail you're able to pick up from down under. Keep 'em coming!

Amazing images again Bird.
Just a note.
To me the planet looks like it has a (very) slight phase.
Lighter on the left, darker on the right.
There is an obvious colour change across the disk also
(almost blue on the left, reddy/brown on the right)
is this real or is it some sort of artifact form
optics / processing?

also,
I haven't seen Jupiter in a year but last time I do remember the
GRS was quite pale and blending with the surrounding
area more so than usual.
Also Red Spot Jr, was quite noticeable.

You must have a nice shot of those lately?

Thanks for posting!

Yes, there's still some phase to Jupiter, it reaches opposition at the end of June, and for a week or so around that time it will show no phase and be equally lit on both preceding and following limbs.

The blue tint to the limb is normal, it comes from the composition of the jovian atmosphere at high altitudes.

Check out this hst image and you'll see it here also:

Fabulous images yet again Bird. The detail in there is incredible.

I hope the mods leave the pics on the post even though it exceeds the 800px limit.

AMAZING!!!
its like they were taken from an orbiting observatory !!!
In terms of image detail capture, those images are certainly in the stratosphere !!
Have you tried getting details of Jupiter's moons, at that image scale they must look like discs with some detail.
