I'm afraid i don't see the point of this camera.
It's a step backwards from the 450d.

The point, apparently, is that some people wanting an entry level SLR find the 450D too expensive. So there is a market between the 450D and the high end compacts.

yea, it looks like its going for a cheaper cost base.
but 1000D", why not the 425D ? they have broken their naming convention and why would anyone want to call it the "Kiss F Digital" ??

Marketing. People don't want to be reminded that they are buying the cheaper option. They get to brag that theirs has a bigger number and so to the uninitiated seems better.
I _think_ the "Kiss" is the Japanese marketing for the range in the same way that the US call the range Rebels. Again down to what works in a region for marketing.

"Kiss" IS the Japanese version. Btw, while in Canada, the Rebel XSi was just launched - we have had it here for a year as the 450D. Go figure, Ireland getting a first over North America...

The Canon EOS 1000 was a film SLR released in the early '90s (and the 1000F with flash) which sold as an upgrade for compact users who wanted something better. It was hugely successful. Looks like Canon are playing the same trick again!
