A pity about the cores, but hey the arms are magnificent!!
I might use this image as a map for the brighter arms sections and the stars in there.
Eamonn, have you ever seen a map indicating/naming the brighter Ha regions in the galaxy ?

Glad you all liked the image. Certainly an interesting one! One could map the interstellar dust detail between the two spirals. I have a program that can enhance this result if anybody is interested.
Michael,
Cores were burnt out on the raw images at 5 mins exp. Combining was done with Maxim DL as this is also the image capturer.
Dave,
I've seen maps in H alpha with no names.
Would you be interested in a colour isophot of the image?

I acquire and combine my images in Maxim as well using the Sigma Clip function. Just curious if you use this function as well or a different one.
IIRC, Anthony uses a different piece of software, called Registar I *think*, which apparently has a better method of combining images. Is that correct Anthony? Perhaps you can elaborate.

Michael,
I also use the Sigma Clip function within Maxim DL. I do have other software programs like AIP4WIN, Astroart which I have tried out in the early days. Some have good strengths but are weak in other areas. However, I find that Maxim is so well developed and much user friendly over the years.
