Very beautiful photographs Trevor from a very beautiful location that I happened to visit a number of years back. Well done, astounding photographs to be very proud of. I particularly like image 1 with the distinct reflection of the event upon the lake and the light cloud in front of the Moon makes it very eye catching indeed ( perhaps you should submit it to Martin King of TV3 weather fame, might be shown on TV;) ).
Watched the same event from my location in Meath (not as exotic as Ross castle mind you) it was more looking over the neighbours roofs with numerous ugly TV aerials reaching for the sky but the event itself was marvellous, got a few snaps as well!
Regards and clear skies
Mike

Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning.

Great images Trevor, I love the use of the castle as a foreground focal point.

Cheers lads,
It sure was a fantastic site. I dont think any picture can do it justice. I didn't bother looking for the beginning of the occultation, but said I might head out a take a few of the conjunction. I had the day off so it was nicely timed. I reckoned I would be down at ross castle in time to see Venus reappear, and I think I missed it by a few seconds, but when I got out of the car and looked up through the gaps in the trees I was flabergasted. Venus seemed way brighter than the moon and it was spectacular to see it just after it reappeared. I had no idea it would be so stunning.
I didn't have any scope with me, just the 10X50's but to be honest I'd say I only glanced through them once or twice. I couldn't get over the naked eye view. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and it is just what you need when you haven't been under the stars for a while to get the passion reignited.

''the passion reignited.''
Trev, I was saying the exact same thing to Dave on the way home.
I've gone in a week from actually having ebay pages done up for
my scope and astrotrac to thinking again about buying a 450D!
We felt guilty leaving the clear Burren skies behind us last night
there are so few good observing nights in this country!

"Same here"
There is even proof in the SDAS Venus session thread where I said to Michael Murphy that this was make or break time for me. Hadn't observed in months due to a house move and in the last week or two even though I was well rested after the move and we had some lovely skies, I'd just look out at the streetlights over the garden and say to my self, "Meh, couldn't be ar$@d".
What was happening to me. Losing interest altogether or just not pushed till the house is renovated and I invest in a rooftop observing area?
Well I got my answer yesterday.
I am not losing interest, its just pointless observing directly under an orange streetlight.
I will not be selling the scope....I will invest in a rooftop observing area!
