Hi Trev,
Good to see you have dusted off the PST !
That prom yesterday was great! Pity I only caught a sketch of it early in the morning.
Although, if today is anything to go by, the morning seems to be the best time to observe the Sun.
Very hazy today and very bad seeing.
Michael.

I do like to see the odd image of the sun - earlier sketches enlightened me with respect to time scale over which promeninces are seen to change. This image makes me think about limb-darkening - for planetary transits of exoplanets this is often factored in to the photometric model (one of my current digressions). However, when I look at this image I see no noticable darkening towards the limb of the solar disc. Now eye-balling alone is highly subjective but limb darkening doesn't jump out at me here.
The theory is that more light radiates out radially than non-radially hence disc of sun/star should be brightest at centre of disc and darken towards the limbs. Maybe effect would be more noticable with full disc image - or maybe effect is subtle - I don't know. Has anyone witnessed such a phenomenon during solar observations?
Thanks Trev
Mark

Cool shot! (or is that hot :silly: )
Wow. That is a big prom alright.
The Earth scale is a nice touch.
Trev, how do you take these shots?
are they a single frame with a camera at prime focus?
I was thinking about buying a thousand oaks filter for the
ETX but I assume all you will see is a disk and the odd sunspot.
What kind of gear is needed to see the details there?
Also,
is it possible to record an AVI of the spots ^ area around them
and if so is movement possible to see.
Sorry for the 20 questions.
