Nice image - I have a question (to all or any) what sort of integration times are recommended for Jupiter?. Carl your image is good - I get cloud bands and no detail. This could be that I'm not capturing any detail but I think also I'm going too long on the integration times and as planet rotates quite fast I suspect that whatever detail I get is getting smeared out.

I take around 50 sec on each channel RG and B. at 30 frames per second. I think your problem is collimation of your scope that why your not getting any detail. What scope are you using and camera.have a look at the links below.

Thanks Carl

I have come to the same conclusion regards collimation of my scope. I've been suspecting that that is a contributing factor.
My scope is an 8" Newt - have it 11 months now and only attempted collimation in past week (never done that before - too "scary" ). Not 100% confident yet on process but I'll get there. Using cheshire and looking for nested concentric circles on defocused star. problem is I always see nicely concentric circles on defocused stars - I'm thinking of changing my brand of cheese.

Look forward to seeing if situation is improved as result.

I have a habit of grabbing too much data hence tending to long (minutes) integration time - so your response is helpful.

Jupiter - while not only prominent - is apparently in good orientation for various mutual moon eclipses/occultations in coming weeks so I hope to follow your example and revisit Jupiter.

Regards

Mark
