Thanks everyone for the replies it was a brilliant night,my camera settings are as follows nikon d80 18-135mmlens i used the 18mm setting
for the sky shots with iso 1600-3200 the highest iso 3200 can tend to be too grainy i also used the bulb setting and experimented going longer but you really need to get a motorised mount.

Those are grand images there Jonathan.
Did you photoshop the second image to remove background skyglow, I have to say I actually prefer the colour of the other images.
The light pollution while not ideal is not too obtrusive, it adds an artistic flare to it.
