For comparison,. here's one of a 5 day old Moon:

Note the strong blue signal near the terminator.
Michael.

A possible example - from Galileo enroute to Jupiter. Not sure how it was filtered - hence "possible" example.

Note the matching blue in Sea of Tranquility to yours Michael (assuming it's not just coincidence).
The shadow of Earth on yours is noticably red - which I think is what should have been expected.
Thanks for endulging me with my query / suggestion.
Mark

Your welcome Mark. Interesting subject.
Eclipse Image
I would have expected the penumbra to appear red as the Moon does appear quite red during a total eclipse. However, what surprised me was the strong green colour within the penumbra. These areas don't apper green in the Galileo image at all even though the other colours seem to match up reasonably well
5 Day Moon
The Sea of Tranquility appearing as blue is not too much of a suprise. However, there is a band of blue for virtually the entire length of the terminator, which is a little interesting. I wonder if this is due to the shallow angle of the light reflecting off the surface in some way? Would blue light be in some way easier to relect off at shallow angles than other colours?

I did! I thought it looked a bit purple but
I put it down to my colourblindness!
