HI Ronan,
Now that is a dark sky I'd love to image under. You know what would make them photos perfect for me anyway. If you lit up the fore ground trees then the black sky behind it. That would be a killer photo. I've seen friends doing this, what they do is shine a light on for a second or two take a photo that is the fore ground done, then image the dark background and combine them using photoshop simple of what.
Well done on some great photos.
Carl.

Nice shots Ronsn. Another trick to bring out the foreground is to use a dim light and scan it around for a few seconds before you close the shutter. It doesn't affect the sky darkness. This shot was taken with a dimmed red headlight on during the exposure (8 MIN)

This shot has no backlight but just enough skyglow and distance to silhoutte the trees. This was taken from a pristine dark sky site

Thanks John and Carl, I was going for a silhoutte shot here although have done foreground shots before, usually good to have something in the foreground like a guy with a telescope .

Hi Dave, they were both ISO 1600 with the 400D at F3.5,30 sec Exp, picked up some Sky glow, I don't have a Bulb cable, do you still make them?
Only real problem I have is getting perfect focus on the manual setting, any idea's on getting it right? What do you do with your 350D?
Think it was pure luck this time, but a very dark site, with telephone cables unfortunately but have a much darker and desolate observing site at Lough Easky.
