Orion Nebula - remember that? was created by Keith g
Hi all, here is my best attempt yet a photographing the Orion nebula in March of this year, ok so it's another M42, but I think I am gradually getting to grips with using my William Optics 110mm mounted on my Celestron CGE mount, all unguided for now due to a certain little recession
This is a stack of 50 100 second exposures at ISO 800. I tried not to 'burn' our the core during processing, and the stars are slightly egg shaped, but hey, I'm happy for now! I need to work on flats, oh I can't wait for some dark skies again.....

Nice one Keith. I like the relatively subdued colours; are you using an unmodified DSLR?
As regards autoguiding versus the recession, using a finderscope with a webcam is worth considering as an effective low cost option.

Wow Keith,
I really like that image very well processed and the color looks great. I have a video here regarding processing the core of M42 I'll root it out and post it here for you.

I just bought recently an Astro Tech 8" RC, and I have my C80ED Piggybacked on top of it, the AT will be used for smaller objects, the C80ED will be used for wide field and larger objects.

Simon

Beautiful shots guys. I love the sense of depth and scale in both images.

Keith, I really like the shot,
the colours are very well balanced and appealing.
I'd be chuffed with that!
