you have got to be kidding me, this must have been written by someone who was there for work experience or something.manic_dave wrote: "Should you have bought the lens more recently, you might want to talk to your retailer on possibly swapping the lens to an IS version.
Other possibilities are to possibly sell off the lens as a second hand through websites like e-bay or such. The good thing about this is that lenses do tend to remain valuable even when they are getting somewhat older. Once sold off you would be able to obtain the item you prefer over the lens in use with you now.
I hope this answer will be able to assist you. If you might have any other Canon related question, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
Yours sincerely, "
great support from Canon !
Does it definitely say "IS" on the box and manual, if so I'd be right back to Curry's and I'd scream blue murder until I get the lens or a full refund and they can try sell it on ebay. Threaten to go on the radio, Joe Duffy on radio1 would like to hear about this kind of thing.

I emailed a contact in canon Ireland this morning outlining my issue but have had no reply as yet.
However I was called by a team leader in Canon Support in the UK, who apologised for the tone and content of the email i received yesterday.
This issue as it stands is as follows.
They want me to send them a picture of the box the camera came in, unfortunately this went into the bin soon after I bought the camera. so they need to see the recipt, and im happy to provide them with this.
They have admitted that the wrong lens could have been placed in the box.
The lad I was dealing with was very nice I have to say and I was left with the feeling that he will get to the bottom of the problem.

The law is clear if an item is 'not as descibed' then you are entitled to restitution under law. Basically a refund or for the defect to be put right. In my experience if you begin an e-mail with something like "I refer you to the Sale of Goods Act....etc' you often find that this cares the living daylights out of the offending company as they realise that this guy knows what hes talking about.
The above advice should not be taken as a professional opinion, I am not a solicitor! Terms and conditions apply.... your home may be at risk.... blah
