Orion vs Scorpius was created by Tonybwf
Hi all,

I know that the great hunter orion was killed by the sting of the scorpion and that they chase each other threw the sky....as one rises the other sets

so as summer comes will the constellation scorpius be visible in the northern sky? Iv read it will and iv read its only a southern hemisphere object...

Regards
Tony

Yes it is visible (well, most of it anyway) but it is low down in the horizon murk. If you travel anywhere towards the south of France, Portugal or Spain you'll get a real eyefull of Scorpius.

Phil.

So does that mean that orion fully disappears then for the summer?

That, and where we lie in correllation to th Sun. During our Summer, the Sun is actually blocking out our Winter constellations during daytime. Everything is 6 months apart like that.

When you think of the zodiac, it is an imaginary line that the Sun is on as it travels across the sky in 365 days. At the moment, around midnight, Gemini (above Orion), Cancer and Leo are in the highest part of the sky. Thus, around 6 months from now, the Sun will be in each of those constellations month to month (June/July/August).

Am I making sense?
