Some solar filters are for imaging while others are strictly for observation. Make sure you purchase one for the observation of the sun.If i buy one in a reputable shop...............can i look directly at the sun using it?

+ 12"LX200, MK67, Meade2045, 4"refractor

also, make sure you get the filter that fit over the front end of the scope, DO NOT use the type that fit soley on the eyepiece, this can explode taking your eye with it.
As for imaging with UHC, I don't see why not, it might not look natural in colour but I'm sure it would give a pleasing black and white image, it would also increase the length of the exposure needed in a serious way.

Also please make sure you secure the mylar material securely to the telescope so that a wind gust will not suddenly expose your eye to the sun thanks to the filter having being sent into orbit.
I realize the above is obvious but it never hurts to be safe and sure!
