I see that it costs MORE to subscribe to Sky at Night than to buy the magazine off the shelf (in Ireland). That's a real gripe some people had with the publishers previously but all they got was a standard response re: postage ... blah ... blah ...

John,

Last time I checked the annual subscription was around 120 euro .... I swear someone must be smoking something seriously illegal!

Excuse me but other magazines with EU customers do not experience similar postage costs and yet their subscriptions are one-half or less?!

Hi Anthony,

Happy New Year and clear skies for 2008 -- especially on August 1st 8-)

I still have not received the January Sky and Telescope and have had problems for 2 years now with their changing distribution system. About 1 in every 3 issues is very, very late and they have arrived from all over Europe (France, Sweden, Germany, Spain). The new format is exactly the same size as Astronomy magazine and does seem a bit lighter.

Some of the Sky and Telescope editors have posted to the Cloudy Nights thread on the magazine and it's great them taking an active interest in their readership. Their hands are tied by the holding company unfortunately and they had to reshuffle a lot of their business to become more competitive (such as now only stocking their own published books and scrapping Night Sky).

So true about the postage for Sky at Night. I think the Royal Mail have changed their rates recently -- especially for posting of books. Some booksellers have been complaining on-line about these new book rates too.

Talk to you soon,

John

IMHO

Beginner: Sky at Night Mag.
Inter / Advanced: S&T (although I'd agree the paper and binding lately is crap)

I subscribe to both but I still every now and then
buy another mag simply because there is something in there
of interest to me.
