Wheels was created by dmcdona
Folks, I'm looking to replace the wheels on my rolling observatory. Think of a garden shed without a floor and a wheel near each corner - that's my rolling observatory...
I'm going to replace the wheels - the replacement wheels have a 1" diameter hole to take an "axle". The supplier doesn't sell these - only the wheels.
I was thinking that a 1" bolt would do the trick, as long as it is long enough. The width of the wheel is 95mm. The width of the central piece (where the "axle" goes) is 66mm.
You may have guessed that at this point, I haven't got a scooby when it comes to motor vehicle mechanics...
So, the question is, what do I need to get to mount these wheels?
Cheers
Dave

A big hammer!
If you haven't already bought the wheels then check out Castormart in the Ballymount Ind. Est.

They might have something better - or provide some inspiration.

You might find it hard to find a 1" diameter bolt. However you may find bearings to fit in the wheel hub and use large washers on either side and fix a smaller bolt equal to the internal diameter of the bearings. The bearings would also produce a smoother ride. Just my 2c - I'll get me coat now

Dave,
1" Steel tubing shouldn't be hard to find. It will certainly be strong enough and would also be easy to work with. Radionics have 1" steel tubing 18swg (1.21mm thick)

You could always splash out and get a set of 18" alloys!
