New telescope was created by tomo
So ive decided to buy a new telescope and was leaning towards the celestron C8-SGT any opinions.
Been looking at UK online prices aroun 1000 pounds, is there anywhere in Ireland that can match these prices?

Can't be sure of anything, but there are others on these boards who can advise.....in my experience and the experience of others....you will almost certainly buy cheaper abroad. I am not saying the telescope you mention is good or bad value, but as rule of thumb....check online before you buy and check in on these boards to look for opinions and views

imho this is one of the best telescopes you can buy for this sort of money. I don't own one (I have the C6-SGT), but I know two people who do, and they both love them. Light but strong tripod, quick to set up, very accurate goto, great views. Just one thing, if you are fairly tall, you might find the tripod legs a bit short, but you can buy extension legs on ebay which work well.

Hi tomo,
Nice to see a fellow amateur is ready to dabble in the telescope market.

My 2 cents worth? Spend the money on a much larger aperture Dosbonian. If you don't really need the GoTo gizmos and can read a star atlas to star hop around between objects (its easy, really...) then you'll soon get aperture fever and will want a larger scope to see more.

Personally, I have had aperture fever for a few years now and I hope soon my own little savings will yield me a good-sized Dob. I have owned a couple 8" reflectors and use of the club's 12" as well as other friends/members larger Dobs (16"+) and you'll always want to go bigger, believe me!
