Bart's Planetary Challenge for 2007

A lovely side-effect of the re-classification of Pluto is that you can now observe all the planets in our solar system with nothing more than a 20 Euro pair of binoculars from Aldi/Lidel. So, I've set myself the challenge of observing them all this year with just my binoculars.

Saw Venus and Mercury with the unaided eye last night. Mercury is just a few degrees to the lower right of Venus over the western horizon after sunset. Remember: it is estimated that only 1% of the world's population have seen Mercury, so get yourself in that club.

Nice initiative Bart, should prove useful, especially for the 99% of those who have yet to spot Mercury!

Weyhey!, I'm part of that 1 %, just saw both Venus and Mercury with the naked eye tonight before sunset and with the scope, and I'm waiting for saturn to rise above the houses and if I get up early enough I will see Jupiter early in the morning, maybe Mars is too near the sun for now, but give it a few months and it'll become easily visible.
