Ancient Aperture was created by dogstar
Pictured is the light box and entrance to the famous
World Heritage Site at Newgrange a 5000 year old
alingment with the rising Sun ,on the shortest
day of the year the winter Solstice Sun illuminated
the passage and chamber. This view taken with the
Milkyway hanging over the entrance must be similar
to the view our Ancient relatives would have seen.
Nice to think that even back then (3500BC ) the
builders of this unique site were acomplished Astronomers.
Anyway hope you like it.Can also be found as Photo of the Month
here www.mythicalireland.com/photos/photo-of-the-month.php

Single shot of
66 seconds
Sigma 10-20mm
canon400D
A little processing was done to remove the yellow from the sodium vapour that was illuminating the stone.

Thanks Declan

oh wise man why is the universe so perfect?ah because symmetry loves herself.

Beautiful Declan, I think it shows how man was connected to the stars so long ago, and indeed gave the night sky a sense of importance governing our way of life, a feeling that is generally lost these days.

Overall, I think it's fair to say that man now knows (and is aware) less about his surroundings in modern times.

I disagree Keith.

The people who built Newgrange (and Stonehenge etc.) probably lived in fear and terror of the mysterious and trecherous gods who ruled the heavens.

Our awareness of our surroundings is at an altogether superior level.

Are you kidding dude,i think such a statement
just agrees with what Keith said.Yea with a
football field of rain forest destroyed every 5
minutes that's really aware and superior.
