Hi All,
I've put together a few maps for some of the up and coming comets for this year, aswell as the asteroid flyby on Friday,
They're up on our club website at
www.shannonsideastronomyclub.com/asteroid_map.htm

and

www.shannonsideastronomyclub.com/comets%20this%20year.htm

Hope you might find them useful, and that we'll actually get good enough weather to use them :)

many thanks guys,
only thing is that I had a look at heavens-above.com for the asteroid and its shows different times and a slightly different path !! : blink:
I've tried this on several different versions of starry night with updated tle files off the web and I always getting the same map!
so now I'm not sure which is right !!!!

Yes, I have been on www.heavens-above.com with Bob O'Brien the last 2 nights and it appears the Da 14 asteroid will be east of Cor Caroli and Chara. It passes through the Plough after that. It will be fading all the time. I guess the only opportunity we shall have will be when the asteroid is in the constellation of Canes Venatici.
There is one thing for sure, our observing skills will be greatly challenged for this event.
And anyway, what is the weather forecast? (Oh dearie me)!!

Aubrey.

Hi Aubrey, thanks for the comments,
Can I ask, if anyone else has starrynight or something similar, can they try compare the path of the asteroid verses whats on heavens-above.
This would be important to anyone running their scope from starrynight who want to track the asteroid.
But I think tracking the asteroid manually with a widefield eyepiece will be easy enough so long as you know where it will be and when it'll be there.
