hi Dave, never use a planetary program to let show the path of the asteroid, since all programs use Orbit Elements, but these mathematics are not suitable for very near passing objects, so it even isn't an error of the programmer. Use the MPC or JPL sites for the correct values. And draw yourself the positions on a star chart delivered by your program.
Following correct positions are from the MPC site, 53 N and 7 W is chosen, someone further in Ireland will only have some 15 arcmin shift maximum.
good luck to everyone!
In UT, the R.A., the Dec., the magnitude and the height:

well, I've often used starrynight with my lx200 to track satellites in the eyepiece, works perfectly most of the time, so I figured that it would work just as well for an asteroid.
Ran starrynight again today and did another tle update, the tle file now seems to produce the correct path for the asteroid, tallies up fairly well against the heaves-above plot, the link in the top post is now corrected, phew
I'd have to leave the country if people missed the event cos of my incorrect map !! :stooges:

What a pity DA 14 wasn't happening tonight (Thursday). Valerie and I were heading for an Indian restaurant and we saw a lovely crescent Moon and the ISS passing just south of it. When we got home, we could see Cor Caroli and Chara with the unaided eye and clear skies all around.
I haven't heard yet if the Dublin Sidewalk Astronomers are heading for Sandymount tomorrow night.
Aubrey.
