.xls microsoft spreadsheets cannot be uploaded.

Hi All,

I have a spread sheet containing data on dark current by time and ISO that could be usefull to the astrophoto group.

But I cannot u0pload it into the file section "resource" as the mime tipe is not known.

Can this be fixed?

I think Jed its a restriction that Bart has in place for security reasons - to minimise the likelihood of viruses being uploaded embedded in certain documents - jpegs are allowable because they are more commony used, even if viruses can be embedded, but its done in good faith!

.xls is a closed format so it has no place on an inclusive public website like this one. It's not fair to expect IFAS users to fork out vast quantities of cash to get MS office to view the files in our files section. This is especially true when there are open alternatives.

Probably the most flexible open format is PDF so I'd suggest converting the file to PDF and then it will upload fine.

To convert an office document to PDF you can use a PDF print drive, Open Office, or just about any other PDF software. Alternatively you can email it to me and I'll convert and then upload it for you.

BTW, the file upload page lists all the allowed formats. ATM they are:

* PDF Document
* GIF Image
* JPEG Image
* Plain Text File

or email me the file if you have no means to convert it to pdf.
