Ok, I've actaulyl spent a LOT of time thinking about the calendar feature and I have some big plans for it which I'll now share with you so you can give me your comments!

First thing, I want the calendar to do MUCH more than just tell people when events are on. I want it to tell people when meteor showers are on, when planets are at opposition, the phases of the moon and other astronomical phenomena AS WELL AS all the club events and other items of interest to Astronomers.

For that to work we will need a team of people who can edit the calendar, hence I would envisage setting up a group on the boards and that the members of that group will have the ability to edit the calendar. I would propose that group consist of interested people and preferably one rep from each club. It would be up to these people to keep the calendar filled.

The other major thing I have in mind is that the information in this callendar be made available in MANY ways. This is one of the reasons I want to keep things XHTML so that I can deliver and process the content in many ways. ATM I envisage the callendar being available in the following ways:
1) Via a calendar page on the IFAS site
2) Events for the current day(or perhaps week) be on the IFAS home page
3) The calendar be available via RSS
4) The calendar be available as a calendar file that can be read by any good calendar software
5) The events relating to a club show up on the clubs page under the clubs.

So, how does that sound to people? Also, if people can think of more ideas I'd love to hear them!

Bart.

Sounds interesting...how would the average Joe Soap/club member actually upload the information?

On a web form. It would be as easy as making a post on the boards.

Ok, that certainly sounds very easy. I see no reason whay it wouldn;t work if that's all that's required - requires effort from all clubs to be successful.
