I don't know about this debate I am only saying that to my eyes (17" 1024X768) Fluid look better.

Up untill very recently I still designed for 800x600 but I recently made the decision to switch to 1024x768. The web logs on my servers seem to indicate this is a valid decision to take now.

Fluid might be a bit of a pain for people with small monitors though.
meh! Does anyone use anything less than 17" CRT nowadays? 15" flatscreen are standard with new pcs and they have the same visible area as a 17" CRT.
It's down to resolution not screensize and 1024*768 is the optimum rez any site should cater for - that's the proper rez for 15" LCD. People with higher rez (me ) will have no probs with sites designed for that.

BTW, no decisions are being made on this yet, this really is just to get some opinions and to get the cogs in my brain turning on this one.

My first instinct was to have it fixed, so as to have fancier graphics, my monitor is a 17" screen so it a middle of the range monitor.
If you were to go fixed, at what resolution would you be aiming for?

I'd imagine I'd fix it at either this width: www.historicirishhouses.ie/home.php or this width: www.minds.nuim.ie/~voyager/
