Moon or Mars? was created by Tonybwf
Hi all,
im wondering what people think is another trip to the moon a waste of time and money...we have been there already a number of times and would the money be better spent on a manned mission to Mars where we havnt been..its hard to see both missions happening
i think we would be better off concentrating on mars

Babysteps. No point in running before you can walk. The moon is almost perfect for our first steps to living on a celestial body other than earth. It poses many challenges that will be faced on Mars and is only a few days away ( albeit by spacecraft).

I would have thought the moon was the place to go, been nearer and easier to get back if things go wrong.

I'm giving my vote (the only one so far) to Mars. And I do so with a hypothetical thinking in mind. Mars would be the one "Great Challenge" for humanity. I know that the trip there and back would be very long for humans, and probably the intent would be to set up a base to prepare for a base rather than just scoop samples and return, but if the logistics allowed, I'd go for that over the Moon. We've been to the Moon. That's not to say I'd like to be a part of the new Manned Landings generation (like the 60's and 70's one), but I'd like to see, for certain, what Martian soil can and can't do.
