Hi all

Having never seen an aurora I am looking forward to catching my first one. I have a few questions however.

1st Being in Kerry, will the auroral oval have to reach down to my location in order for me to see it
2nd ....Will the moonlight block out all but the strongest activity....
3rd What level of activity (colour) should the oval be in order to see activity. I am looking at www.dan.sp-agency.ca/www/rtoval.htm

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Being even further south in Sneem I can confirm that Aurorae are visible in Kerry. Last year's displays were clearly visible even at zenith. Here are some photos of what I saw.

Oh, and don't stand in Killarney to see it.

Thanks james.

Those are pretty nice pics. How long is the exposure on each frame in animation?? I have a darkish site a few miles ourside Killarney that I go to, so if there is any big activity on the cards, I plan to go there. I guess outside your back door is plenty dark

Cheers
Trevor

All photos were 15s at ISO 1600. I pumped the green channel to bring it out. The actual colour was a greenish white. It took a while for my eyes to adapt to make out any difference between clouds and aurora. Light pollution would have washed it out.

I didnt realise you were in Sneem.

You're not my local courier, are you? The one that likes to play football with all my parcel deliveries?

I bet that suspension unit I ordered surprised you!
