a couple of texts from the folks in Spain.
one of the gang was going to observe the event from Valencia (Spain) but based on the local forecast he drove 250km inland and saw the whole eclipse under clear skies . . . and by pure luck met up with Fred Espenak!
Chris O'Byrne texted Wally and they had some cloud but saw the whole eclipse (also in Spain).
no news from any of the other eclipse chasers in Iberia yet.
atb,
John

Everyone in Ireland buys Meade, and they all buy them from Lidl.

I don´t mean to gloat, but I just can´t help it!
The weather here in Madrid was just perfect. Got a fantastic view for the entire duration of the eclipse.
Took a load of photos as well - I didn´t bring much optics with me, just the camera zoomed in with a solar filter over the lens. But it appears to have captured the phases of the eclipse very nicely. I´ll post them later in the week when I´m back in Ireland and have had a chance to go through the memory card and pick/process the good ones.
The best part for me was the dim yellowish light, and the people in the street below stopping in their tracks to look skyward!
Being an annular eclipse, you couldn´t really look directly at it naked-eye, I used eclipse glasses for the whole thing. But it was fantastic seeing the ´hole in the sky´with a perfect white ring around it.
