Hi all, I was trying to figure out if my ETX-70 was off axis (see earlier post) when I came across this on the Meade site

I think the scope itself is 10 degrees out when it's in the 'home' position. Maybe someone can look at their scope- when I set the vertical access to 0 degrees, it's not perpendicular to the tripod, it's pointing 10 degrees skyward. Is this right??

Hi ,
I dont think it really matters as long as the tripod is fairly level (use bubble) and you perform the 2 star align accurately.
One thing you might need to do is train the drives. I'll be giving that a go during the weekend.

I'm only going on experiance of other goto scopes, I didn't read the ETX link in the previous post.

Sorry, I should point out that the link on my previous post is a video instruction manual- tells you everything you need to know about the scope, with a few handy tips too.

I had a quick look, its looks like it could be very usefull, I just dont have time at the moment, I wasn't in any way inferring it was bad or anything...

I arrived at Lidl (coolock) at exactly 9am on that monday morning just as the shutters went up. There were about 25 people in the queue. I was there to buy two scopes one for me and another for a friend. I literally got the last two at 30 seconds past 9. I dont mind telling you about the dirty looks I got from people coming upo behind me!!! I was kind of expecting the girl at the till to tell me I could only have one but she happily rang em thru:) Outhside the store a guy offered me 250 euro for one. I put em in the car and got outta there real quick!

As for the scope I must say I'm pleased as punch. I've only had one opportunity to use it and it worked like a dream. Alignment worked great first time and the goto centered objects perfectly. This is gonna be great for those nights when you just cant be bothered getting the heavy gear out. Also I would have loved to have had this for the venus transit. Gonna be great to take on hols too!!

Clear skies,

David.

Here's a few links of interest for ETX owners that I dug up before the sale.... sold out for me though I'm thinking of getting something from the US with the exchange rate being so good.
