Hi Paul,

Check out www.myslooh.com for some of the best examples. As always, quality is weather and user dependent.

Each dome has both high mag and wide field instruments Canary Islands Dome 2 provides the highest mangifications and is most suited to planets and the smallest DSOs. Dome 1 has a lower magnification high mag instrument and the widest field. When both domes are available (Dome 2 is currently down for maintenance) one is dedicated to users who have booked time and the other follows a pre-programmed nightly mission schedule prepared by the 'Editor'. Both are available for all to view and to store images at the appropriate moment when operational.

I spend most of my time on it viewing programmed missions. Preparing a coherent mission list of my own that will have some purpose is on my to do list.

Regards,

John

YES!
At long flippin' last.
It looks like 2 High Pressure systems are going to merge
and dominate over Europe for the next few days
(Keeping the nasty Low Pressure stuff off the coast) :D
Run this sequence to see..

Another thing I've learned the hard way is you really need to
work from the UV AND IR to get an accurate idea of what clouds are there.
Sometimes if you look at the UV image it looks clear
but there may be clouds because the ground and cloud Temps might be very
close.

Eg. Today...
The IR shows very little clouds over the country..

But the Visible tells another tale..

I've calibrated my screen to see the subtle wisps you barely see and
can easily miss on the IR.
I've also made a chart in photoshop by cutting and pasting
square sections from the IR image to show what is clear and
what is cloud (so I can use it to gauge the future charts when no visible
image is available)

There are 5 squares, the one in the middle is clear skies.
I've tried it out and the best thing to do is
download the latest IR image and open it in Photoshop,
then copy the IR gauge into the image and use the pointer
to move it around...you'll see the differences pretty easily.
I just hope it saves me from another wasted journey to the coast!

After all that I can't get out tonight but by God
I'll be taking advantage of it tomorrow night!!

Oh..it's almost a dirty word but some areas are more than likely
gonna have to deal with...ugh....FOG.

Metcheck is also forecasting clear skies all week. No big change until Saturday. Wouldn't you know it Saturday 16th is a public showing in Glendalough. Mind you though I wouldn't trust a forecast more than a few days ahead.

Clear Skies,
