Dave,
I noticed it with images taken directly through the Canon lens.

My best shot so far, taken sometime around newyears, with the mighty ETX70
on an Aiptek dv3500 (a jack of all trades also from Lidls) its full auto so exposure was 1/18 sec at F2 (according to its EXIF anyway).
through the eyepiece+3xbarlow (12mm or 25mm i cant remember which)
I cropped and tweeked it a bit in PSP7 and VOILA! fit for the front cover of
"Sky and Telescope" no you say? would you except inside the back cover of
"Home Surgical Appliance Monthly" just below the small ads?

ive just noticed that i forgot to resize this pic after tweeking should i upload a
smaller one?

Michael,
I havent got that with the canon lens, do you have any examples of what you found.
Wormhole.
Looks like a bit of focus loss got the better of you, still though a reasonable first go.

Michael,
Looking at Rigel, there does seem to be a tiny amount or redness at the 12 o'clock position.
BUT, I would't gague anything from that image alone as the focus doesn't look like its bang on ?? the stars are not pin point.
I have an image which isnt perfect also, and shows a tiny blue/red hue around some of the star images, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thats right Dave, and I bet that I am going to have people ask me about astrophotgraphy, which I am not any good at! But, it'll just give an idea of size more than anyting when seen in the scope - i.e., one does have a fighting chance to actually see something with even a small 70mm refractor.

Seanie, just keep in mind that you wont see any of the nebula colour visually in the scope, the full shape was there just fainter then the photo portrays, remember this is a fast widefiueld scope, you probabily wouldnt get the same effect in a slower scope.
