Ballycullen Public Night

The second annual "Ballycullen Star Party" will take place on 17th and 18th January.

Time: 20:30 - 22:30

Dates: 17th and 18th January 2008

Venue: WoodDale Green, Ballycullen View, Dublin 24

Directions: From M50 get off at junction 12 (Firhouse) and head towards Tallaght/Firhouse - Go straight through the first big roundabout you come to (Ballycullen Road). At the next roundabout turn left. Then take the first left into Ballycullen View estate. Drive straight in 'till you come to the Green on your left. Follow the green all the way around around to the left. We will be set up near the North West corner.

Last year we had a very good turn out from the local populace. I will be dropping leaflets in through local letterboxes this weekend. We should have at least 5 scopes to show the public the heavens. If you want to participate and bring along a scope - the more the merrier. The only objective here is to show the night sky to the public and have a good time doing it. Don't forget to wrap up warm. All scopers are welcome to a coffee back at my house afterwards - maybe even a beer on Friday night.

Yep thats Michael displaying his 11 inches in Public. Val Dunne brought his 8" SCT, Deirdre Kelleghan her 8" Dob, and my humble 4" refractor.
This year we should have a few more - anyone with a big dob?

Yeah - I'll bombard the letterboxes with a flyer this weekend to alert the public in the area and hopefully we'll have at least one clear night Thursday and/or Friday. Last year we had long queues at all the scopes - this year I expect more as they've already had a taste.
