Now you have me under a bit of pressure to find R Leporis, Paul. However after I observed Venus, I shall start looking for your 1st carbon star.

Hi

Carbon Star tour is now loaded up onto autostar :p

But I am hoping to see Comet C/2009 P1 (Gerradd) which I believe is heading between Hercules and Draco supposedly at mag 6.3

Has anyone seen it yet? Is it any good?

It is set for a great night's observing, but it's very unlikely that I will be able to make it - I'm gutted. Enjoy.

i want to thank nerro for bringing the losmany plate
even if it didnt fit it was a crazy night loads came
the only problem was the cold and i mean it was cold
my hands were paining me even with gloves.

after about 65-70 mins i had to go to get back for
ten i maybe would of stayed a little longer only for
the cold.

other people were sitting inside their car as
well for a little while to keep warm we should do it
again in march when the weather is not so cold the
sky was great it just shows we can do it when we
put our will to it their was no talking just action.

The actual air temperature isn't so much the problem as the windchill. Its great up there when its calm. The scopes can be covered in frost ferns and yet one can be perfectly comfortable as long as one has a few layers on. I find Ski Gear is perfect. Thats what I was wearing tonight and I only got cold hands when I had the gloves off for an extended period. The rest of me was toasty, the whole time.

On a good night up there one can estimate that they've been observing for 65-70 minutes and then look at their watch and find its actually 1 am and you've been there 5 hours :D

Still enjoyed meeting new people and catching up with the lads even if I didn't get much observing done. Roll on the next one! :D
