We had a fantastic view from Louth last night at about 2:30 am.
There was one large, thick section to the NNW which was sort of a dirty white with lots of swirling and layering -- reminded me very much of a high-power view of M42.
There was another thin, drawn-out section to the NE, which was more filamentary in nature. It was a bit higher off the horizon, and shone with a much crisper blue/white against the darker sky. This part also had some stars poking through, and looked for all the world like a contrast-enhanced view of the Veil Nebula.
Simply a stunning display.
