Revelation 80mm APO Doublet

HI guys! seeing as im buying a new scope id like a small apo refractor to complement it! not now but in the future! How does this compare to the william optics scopes of equal aperture?Its an apo doublet and also boasts a 2" crayford focuser!
I know it depends on what i want it for. Well
1. wige field astro shots, Nebulae
2. maybe autoguiding

For what it is i think its a good price and that image with it of M31 is fantastic!

As far as I know it is in fact the same optics as the WO doublet. However the workmanship which goes into the WO scopes is first class since they are about the same price, I see no reason to depart from the tried and tested WO scope.

It will work for autoguiding but you *might* need to use a 2x barlow with the focal lenght a short 480mm. Saying that I have autoguided very long scopes at 600mm with no problems.

What mount do you plan to autoguide?

Quite frankly Peter, I think that is bad advice. Maybe years ago when APO's cost an arm and a leg that might have been true.

Matthew asked about a scope he plans to use for wide field imaging. An achromat will not cut it for that, unless you are prepared to put up with chromatic abberation and halos in your images.

Have you imaged through both types of scopes?

My point remains, Matthew asked for specific advice about equipment to use for astrophotography. If he asked about visual equipment then that *could* be a different matter.

So my original premise remains, on what basis shoud he 'forget about those little apo scopes'??

I'm sorry Peter I might seem to be knocking you, that is not my desire. I have no doubt your advice is well meaning and possibly valid in another context, but Matthew did ask a specific question and he did state what he wanted to use the equipment for. Matthew is considering a significant investment and I'm sure you would want him to be very happy with his purchase. That will not happen with an achromat used for imaging.
