I don't want to go to the bother and expense of building an observatory that I am
going to leave behind but I don't want to not get a scope just because of that either.


I found myself in that exact same situation a few years ago and got myself a telescope dolly . Worked a treat. The telescope remains setup on it - you just roll it out of the shed/garage and away you go. You will however need a hard-standing area where the dolly can roll out onto directly from the shed.
