Frank,

I am certain the mount is either a Losmandy G-8 or G-11 and the giveaway is the classic Losmandy digital board which one can see in the photo.

As noted by others, there was a time when Losmandy and Celestron worked together to form packages. My C14 which was purchased in the mid-90's is one such example. The package known back then as CG14 comprised of a Celestron C14 and a Losmandy G11.

The Losmandy G11 mount is very good ... and, for the money, is exceptional.

PS. The attachment between the bottom of the legs is characteristic of the more recent mounts and which Losmandy labelled CI ... for example, CI-700.

Thanks everyone.

So if that mount is now gone.
What would be todays equal?
The Losmandy G-11?

Cheers.

Losmandy have three mounts: the GM-8, the G11 and the Titan. Each has a different price tag and capacity. The GM-8 is the lightest and the Titan is the heaviest. WHen selecting a mount, you need to have some indication of what scope(s) you plan to use with it.

Hi Frank

If you are planning to go above a C11 (such as a C14 OTA) you might want to check the maximum weight the mount can take. If your main interest is astrophotography and you want to add guidescopes and heavy cameras, then you may push the mount to is limits. If it is for visual use and taking AVI's then you would probably be OK.
I have the CGE mount which is the mount Celestron sell with their C14 as standard. You are more than welcome to take a look at it.

Thanks again lads.
The reason for the question is that
I'm starting to do my homework now for when I buy the new scope.
I have to say I'm very interested in the Celestron C-14 OTA.
From what I can see the Losmandy range of mounts are excellent for the price.

As for what I plan on using it for.
First and foremost I want a good scope for visual work.
Secondly, at the moment, I like planetry imaging.
I've never tried deep sky but that is not to say I won't and I'd like
the scope to be adaptable to that area also if I start to get into it.

Many things to think of I know...
Any advice from those that have made similar choices is very welcome!

John - I'll have to take you up on that offer one of the days!
