A few years back, a local arts and crafts shop were selling off aload of their stock, I bought all remaining 10 A4 transparent red sheets they had for something like 20 cents each.
I was able to make them more opaque by stacking them up so as not to be getting too bright a light.
You should go hunting your local arts and crafts shops, I'd bet you'll find what you're looking for.

Another option, which I use, is the red gel filter used on canon lights - you know, the kind in nightclubs and in theaters. If you get stuck fguihen, I can get a sheet or 2 I think for you.

Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning.

Construct a frame out of cardboard, similar to a picture frame, where the red cell can be mounted, then attach a hooks made fron stiff cardboard that can hooked over the top of the laptop screen. Elastic bands could also be attached to the frame and these stretched across the back of the laptop.

Use one of the cheapo anti glare frames with some red acetate stuck on.
