Right my mind is made up. The Celestron dealer in the UK (i won't name names but if you read back you will figure it out) wont accept payment from an Irish Visa credit card (even though i asked them to deliver the kit to a UK address).

So i wont be buying from them.

I have found another Celestron dealer (also in the UK) who do accept an Irish Visa card and WILL deliver to Ireland. The price is a few euros more then the cheapest price i found in Ireland (but they are out of stock) and it is a lot cheaper (even with shipping costs) then the other place in Ireland (won't name names) who is the dearest i have found.

Took me a while to research it but it was worth it (I HOPE). Let's face it...........ANY saving on price is a good deal.

Just a friendly suggestion .... some patience and you will find a much better deal on eBay and/or Astromart.

I would not be surprised if you find the same kit for $100 ... or about 70 euros ... plus shipping.

Thanks for the heads up on astromart Anthony. I'll bookmark that site for future reference.

The dealer in the UK that doesn't accept orders on an Irish credit card is also the distributorship for the UK and Scandinavia. It may actually be illegal to refuse retail orders fround Ireland under EU law if the company in question accepts orders from any other part of the EU.

I tried to get an aswer to that question once but the civil servants I contacted were useless on the subject and I don't feel like paying legal fees to find out. Instead I simply decided that I would personally boycott the brand in question because of its distributor's anti-competitive practices. Since then I've spent over five grand on astro gear of one kind or another - and none of it on that brand.

I admire your committed stance John. I'll probably feel the same way at some stage down the line.......but for now i'm just glad to get hold of what i want....by any means.
