Hi Paul
Depends on the Barlow lens, i.e., is it: x2, x2.5, x3 etc. If the Barlow is x2, then yes it will double the magnification of your eyepieces giving you in effect a larger range of eyepieces, but be aware that your telescope does have limits regarding useful magnification per inch of aperture (mine too), you also have earths turbulent atmosphere to consider when viewing at higher magnifications but also you maybe able to push the magnification on nights of good seeing. The only thing to do is to get out into the garden and experiment with your new astronomical toys to see what works and gain experience! Some of the other guys here would be more knowledgeable than me on optics and could give better explanations, but I think that is the basics as I understand them!
