The viewpoint I came at it from was this...

The moisture appears mostly in the early morning. By having it on at these hours, it would be on for the minimum amount of time (to keep the electricity cost down) yet carry out it's function.

I have since changed the hours to 4am -> 9am. Works fine so far anyway. Will keep an eye on it.

Michael.

I have an Olimpia - Splendid, which I picked up in DID Electrical (or Power City - can't remember) last year. It has a relative humidity sensor and can be set to start drying the air once the RH reaches a certain level, and continue until it reaches another RH%. Very useful.

It's easy to over-do the dehumidifying though... I bought mine to dry out a rental cottage that my last tenant had destroyed by heating it with two Superser gas heaters. The house was saturated to the point that water was running down the walls and the carpets were soaking! After they left, I stripped the walls and chucked the carpets, and installed the dehumidifier, which I left running for a couple of months. It sucked out tens of gallons of water in a very short time! The problem was that it did such a good job I couldn't even get wallpaper paste to stick to the walls!!! I had to wait for the humidity of the plaster to return to normal before I had any success!!
