Michael - the noise on the right could be from the chip electronics. A dark frame will get rid of them. The DSI has two spots - top right and top left from the amplifiers. Darks eliminate them altogether.

Cheers

Michael,
Those hemispheres of brightness on the right hand site are noise induced by the electronics heat, like Dave McD suggests, darks does remove that.
I get them every time and they are entire predictable, I always try to keep the subject of the image away from that side of the image.

Dave Lillis,
would the 350D have the same kind of problem with heat noise? I was considering that, as its a newer version of the 300D.

Most certainly, and in some ways the 350 is worse the the 300D.
Have a look at
www.tcann.com/
and scroll down about half way, past all the nice pics to the dark frame images, note that the 350 has thermal noise on both sides of the frame.
While there note the high amount of noise on the D70 and just how good the 20D is.

Wow! So many lovely pictures of Orion and them BAM! - pixellated hell!!

I know you usually get what you pay for, but I would have thought that the 30D, being more expensive, would have had a slightly more advanced chip...
