M3 - Globular Cluster In Canes Venatici;

Finally after seemingly endless cloudy skies and being away on business, I finally managed to get a decent imaging run on Monday night. Here is the result.

I am pretty pleased with this as for the first time, I think I managed to get all of the necessary factors all working well together, guiding focussing, processing etc.

The other interesting thing was I did NOT use a light pollution filter. This was a sequence of 77 x 90 second exposures. This technique seems to work very well as opposed to taking fewer longer exposures. The image only needed minimal processing to remove the orange gradient from the light pollution and I think the colour balance is so much better than when using the filters.

Thats a grand image Dave. I'd be very happy with such an image, M3 is one of my favourite objects in the sky, always nice to see it.
I'd imagine at 90 seconds at iso1800, that you might get away without as LP filter.

Dave L: There was no LP filter used in that image. Thats the beauty of using the shorter exposures. Also as Seanie alluded to, the removal of the LP filter brings some real colour to the stars whereas with the LP filter the images tend to be more monochromatic.
