Not a bad shot at all Trevor, and like the others said, you captured some nice colour in it there! Can I suggest you tone the colours down perhaps? For such a small object, I would guess that the colour levels might be slightly exaggerrated. :oops:

I could be wrong though!

This is a pretty dynamic object, I'm not sure the colour is wrong on this one.

Other images of the cigar galaxy that I've seen show the stellar wind 'filaments' from the core in a deep red e.g. www.robgendlerastropics.com/M82NM.html

So you probably have the colour close to the mark. Seanie - could it be your monitor? Or could it be mine??? :oops:

By the way Trevor - did you notice you seem to have captured a meteor streak too? I think I see one to the upper left of the image....

I've seen it as yellow, orange and red in professional images.
See the thread here from a few years back, I had an image of this galaxy and it looks yellow/orange (half ways down the page).
